Sean & Emily…. two people I adore & clicked with right off the bat! They are the most generous & thoughtful couple, who made me feel so appreciated & taken care of on their big day. Not to mention even had a gift for me as my birthday was the day after their Wedding! I had been battling my wisdom teeth leading up to their July 30th nuptials & this day proved to be my ‘worst’ day yet battling the pain. I was at the point where I hadn’t eaten in 24 hours & I was extremely hungry & just all around not feeling well… which Emily took note of & tried everything in her power to make me comfortable. & I couldn’t love her more for it. Aside from all that, nothing stopped me from capturing the most intimate & beautiful backyard Wedding Sean + Emily planned on this gorgeous Summer afternoon!
I arrived at Emily’s parents house next to Fish Creek Park, where her family were prepping & organizing for their bride to be. Emily’s family gathered in the living room, sharing stories & talking about movie actors as she got herself ready! She did her hair then re did it again haha looking seemingly nervous! You see, everybody talked Emily into having this big celebration! She just wanted to marry her best friend with no big fancy dress or wedding… but her family told her if she didn’t celebrate marrying her best friend with all her loved ones, that she would regret it. So they decided to throw a small Wedding, in a dinner party setting at her family home… which was perfect in every way, & they couldn’t be happier.
Emily’s sister planned the entire Wedding, setting up a huge tent in the backyard, to tiny customized coasters in the living room…. every little detail was noticed & everything came together wonderfully. Their immediate families & close friends took their seats in the shade of the tent as Emily made her way to her groom. & Sean could not keep his eyes off her for one second. After a touching exchange of words & a kiss to seal the deal, we took our happy couple down to Fish Creek Park for some portraits! We quickly realized the potential this area would have at sunset, so we held off until the light got a little better. We headed back to Emily’s parents house for some cocktails & appetizers & as the night went on, we all had noticed a big huge dark blanket making it’s way above the tent. All of a sudden buckets of water accompanying huge golf ball sized hail began to smash against the house. We sat there inside watching as our sunset dreams were being crushed right in front of us… feeling so discouraged! Thankfully my gut told me this good ol’ Calgary storm would pass, as they always do, & that patience definitely paid off because we had one of the most beautiful sunsets of the Summer, & we were basking in it until it disappeared.
Sean + Emily, thank you so much for inviting me into your lives to document the best day ever! Your Wedding was super fun & easy going, which is SO what I needed that day. You took care of me in a way I will never forget & really took the time to welcome me as part of the family. I’ll cherish our day together & I hope to see each other in the near future!
Oh, & enjoy your new home Mr & Mrs Van de Pol!
