I met David + Bonnie the day of their Wedding, as we lived about 4 hours away from each other. I had talked on the phone with Bonnie, & she is the sweetest woman I have ever come in contact with. I knew Bonnie’s daughter Amber beforehand, having done a family session for her, so I knew this family was going to be incredible to spend the day with.
As this day was a huge part of two families becoming one, it was a joy to photograph the love they all shared – & their sense of humour! I arrived at their beautiful home in Okotoks to a room full of ladies eating pizza & laughing about anything & everything. Bonnie headed to the salon to get her hair done so I was busy photographing all the gorgeous details upon her return to get makeup finished. As a grandmother, Bonnie was surrounded by her grandkids running around & asking for fruit snacks all while she was getting ready haha! & She wouldn’t have it any other way.
We all arrived at the Hall where the room was filled with all their close friends & family. David walked in with his 3 children, his daughter on his arm & his two sons following behind as the whole room smiled as they made their sweet entrance. The ring bearer & flower girl definitely made an entrance of their own, giggling & running down to Grandpa, making everyone burst out laughing. Finally Bonnie made her appearance with her daughters walking her down the aisle, & it was hard to hold back emotions. The vows were simple & sweet, & the family soon joined them up at the alter to symbolize their new family.
After some pictures outside… it was dinner time! We ate a delicious meal while hearing wonderful speeches & jokes by their children & MC. The Bride & Groom even joked during their speech about how they met, thanking their mutual friend who they visited in the hospital after he had a heart attack… sparking how this love story began. Ha! I have photographed over 40 Weddings & this dance floor was the best I had seen yet. Every man shared an innocent dance with the Bride & then it came for the ladies to dance with David. Only this portion of the dance involved Condoms, Balloons & Money! Everything you could think of was thrown on that dance floor all while David & the ladies were getting down. It was all in good fun & I’ve never laughed so hard while trying to take pictures in my life! I’m surprised they were all in focus! Of course, the DJ had to play a little something for Chloe (The adorable Flower Girl who I happen to share a name with) & what else would that have been, other than Frozen’s ‘Let it go’ which quickly became quite the number for all the older ladies too, giving Chloe the spotlight.
Thank you David + Bonnie for giving me the opportunity to document your Wedding Day. I had THEE most fun spending the day with you & your families & you were all so welcoming. It was an incredible reception seeing the love & support everyone shared while dancing their hearts out, which was honestly the most fun to photograph.
Cheers xo
