We see a lot of tips for brides and brides-to-be.. but what about the men? Believe it or not, the grooms do have SOME responsibility on their big day! And ladies, as hard as it is to leave some tasks to them, these 3 tips are what they can do to help you have better images!
- Iron Your Shirts/Suits: I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into a hotel room to photograph groom prep, and everything is still in the travel bag! This is a huge mistake! Shirts become wrinkled while travelling and they’ll stay wrinkled if you keep them inside the bags! I know a lot of grooms don’t want to touch anything before the big day, but I urge you to take everything out, iron it, then hang it up! That way in the morning, everything will be ready to photograph! But it’ll also be ready for you!
- Learn to tie your ties/bowties: It’s rare to run into this issue, as most men know how to do this already… but some don’t! And are frantic as soon as they start getting dressed and pick up their ties to put on, only realizing they have no idea how and you’re 10 minutes away from walking out the door. I’ve had groomsmen gather in front of an iPhone watching “how to” youtube videos, which is great- thank you technology! BUT this will cut into your photo time! Don’t leave this to the last minute! We want as much photo opportunity as we can get.
- Make sure your pockets are empty for the Ceremony: This has been a big issue for me lately… if you’ve been in front of my camera before, you know the deal, we empty everything out! But during the ceremony, I unfortunately can’t run up and ask you to empty your pockets. I can’t run up to your groomsmen who’s got sunglasses on his head and kindly ask him to remove them. Hand your keys, phone, wallet etc to someone you trust before the ceremony. I will also offer everyone to put their items in my camera bag, which is a safe place/with me at all times, and you can easily grab your things afterwards. We just don’t want square thighs during the ceremony 😉
