It feels so surreal writing this! And it’s even crazier sharing how it happened with you; but I am just so excited! Matt and I will be celebrating 7 years together this July, so to say I’ve waited for this day for a long time… well that statement couldn’t be more accurate. I’VE WAITED A REALLY LONG TIME! I’ve been in love with this man since I was 19 years old and he’s given me the two most amazing gifts I could have ever asked for. Knowing I’ll be sharing the same last name as the people I love most in this world… it’s a feeling I can’t describe.
I held my workshop in Calgary last month and had only planned to stay in the city for that weekend. Matt had just transferred Mines which meant we rarely ever saw each other in the last month.. so I was looking forward to heading home and having us all together that following weekend. However, he called me that Friday night and said he would be coming down next weekend. I was a little confused because this guy never travels to the city.. like ever! But he asked if I wanted to stay so we could head to the mountains. So after a lot of going back and forth, I finally agreed to stay in the city and we were able to work out childcare with our families. So off we went, on a very unexpected getaway to the mountains – kid free!!

We headed to Banff with Matt’s sister and her husband and ended up on Norquay Hill lookout. There’s a spot along the hill that holds a very special place in our hearts, so we stood there, taking it all in and enjoying the view. Kelsey took out a camera and Matt asked if I wanted a few pictures up here together (Does he even have to ask??). After a couple pictures, he leaned in for a smooch then dropped to one knee and pulled out a big box and asked the easiest question he could ever ask me “Chloe… will you marry me?”
I looked at him, giggling like a school girl with a very confusing expression and asked if this was a joke! LOL my bearded fella decides to propose on April Fools guys… who does that on April Fools?! (I later came to find out that in fact a lot of people have proposed on April Fools, including some of my 2017/2018 grooms!)
After I realized this was indeed a real ring and he was actually asking me to marry him… a big fat YES tumbled off my lips and I embraced him with everything I had. I’ve thought about this day for a long time and I’ve been planning this forever for even longer… because after all we’ve been through, if it’s not ‘him’, then there’s no ‘him’ out there.
Here’s the moment captured, thank you Kelsey!
