You might know Michael & Robyn from my first ever Stettler Fall Mini’s last year, when I captured one of the most emotionally filled surprises ever! Michael got down on one knee during our session & proposed to the love of his life Robyn, & I still get all the feels thinking about this beautiful moment!
We met at a powerlifting competition in Calgary in May 2014. The morning of the competition my girlfriend and I were getting ready for the day and I told her that I needed to look extra nice because today I was going to meet my husband. Of course we laughed it off and didn’t think anything of it. During the competition I was standing in the audience, cheering on the lifters when this drop dead gorgeous man walked into the room and stood beside me. It turned out that we were both there to cheer on the same person, whom later introduced us. We have been together ever since.
I told Mike that I wanted to get some fall photos done for a nice Christmas card, but to my surprise Michael told me that he already had a photographer in mind for the exact same thing and that we were going to do it on October 24th because he saw in my agenda that I would be done midterms by then. I thought that was a little strange… for the man to organize a photoshoot from the date to the photographer, but went with it.
I had a hunch that something might happen during the shoot, but we were nearing the photoshoot and nothing had happened. Chloe told us that she just had to go change a lens but would be right back. Michael came over to me and told me that he wasn’t sure how he felt about the poses that she was making us get into and had another pose in mind. I was a little surprised because I thought Chloe was on point, but told him to speak up and tell her what he had in mind. I remember this scene very vividly in my mind… He said, “Well, I actually have this pose in mind”… that is when Michael got down on one knee, pulled out a box and opened it while saying, “Robyn, will you marry me?”. My knees could hardly hold my body and I was balling my eyes out. October 24th, 2016 was the day I said “yes” to my best friend and I will forever relive that moment through the wonderful photos that Chloe captured of it.
Of course I was ecstatic to receive a message from Robyn asking if I would officially be their Wedding Photographer & I jumped up & down for a good 10 minutes. We were finally able to do their Engagement photo’s at the end of Summer & they took me to 3 locations they had scouted out where we were able to do a little bit of everything! We started off more formal & classic, photographing them with a beautiful red barn & then to their secret little hoodoo hidden gem to pop some wine. We then changed into something a little more causal & headed down to the family campground where they had a canoe & requested some epic sunset shots on the water! Eeep! It was the perfect way to end the evening & I had SO much fun adventuring with you both.
Michael & Robyn are having an intimate Wedding at Michael’s family farm & they have a stacked Wedding Party with family & close friends. Robyn even has a sneaky surprise for her soon to be husband, which we will all soon find out next Summer 😉 I can’t wait to get to know you both more as this journey continues, & to be there to help celebrate your special day!
