I’m always curious & interested to peek into another photographer’s camera bag! To see what they shoot with & why. Whats their favourite lens? Do they shoot with zooms or primes? Filters? What kind of bag do they hold their gear with? It shows a lot about them & their unique style as a Photographer. Because lets face it, we’re all soooo different!
First of all, I shoot Nikon. Why? I like the way Nikon shoots. I find their shutter is quieter & they shoot faster. & When I got my first DSLR camera as a graduation gift, it was the Nikon D60 & I’ve been upgrading that ever since. Although both Nikon & Canon produce great images, I’ve stuck with the Nikon brand as I also find theres better glass in the lenses. Again, it’s all just my personal preference & observation. I’m just a Nikon girl 🙂
I have two bodies, my primary is the Nikon D810 & my backup body is the Nikon D700. I have 6 lenses, 4 of those prime lenses. I prefer shooting with primes because they’re a fixed focal length. I find my images sharper & dreamy-er & thats just something I aim for in my photography. That style is something that has stuck with me, therefore I purchased the equipment to make my gear/shooting consistent. My other 2 lenses are a wide 20mm & a 10.5mm fisheye, for mixing things up 🙂 Although they’re barely on my camera, they’re still nice to have & whip out on occasion.. especially my fisheye for wide ceremony shots… love! I have two batteries for both bodies & a plethora of memory cards. I also have a Manfrotto tripod & Nikon Umbrella kit with an SB-600 Speedlight for those OCF shots.
I keep all of this in my House Of Flynn Rose Gold Evermore bag – It fits all my equipment & more! I love that it’s easy to carry & super comfortable. I’ll use this bag for my sessions & then roll out my Lowpro wheels for Weddings! & My ADORABLE leather floral memory card holder…. eeeep! Also from HOF 😉 You can purchase yours here!
Alright, lets get into my gear! Like I said, this is just the gear that gives me the images I want to produce. My style has a lot to do with what I shoot with & how I shoot. I shoot with all primes because I shoot with a wide open aperture… giving me these dream-like airy images. I like my images soft, but sharp & in focus. Primes give me just that. Do I think I’m at a disadvantage with fixed focal lengths? Not at all. Their optics are perfectly crafted for that specific focal length, giving me spot on results & full control over my depth of field. & Even though it’s easier to stand in 1 spot with your zoom lens capturing different crops of 1 image, it’s OKAY to move around with your prime! & I actually enjoy moving around, haha!
35mm 1.4 Sigma ART
I decided to buy the Sigma ART because it’s smaller, lighter & this is a big one… the cost! I use this lens a great deal with ALL of my sessions. It’s a great wide angle lens that brings a good landscape into a fantastic one! It’s wide, but not too wide! I use this lens when I have a wide landscape in the background or with a very large group of people. It’s also great in low-light, which is AWESOME for reception room shots.
NIKKOR 58mm 1.4
This lens is on my camera 75% of the time! It’s super sharp & has beautiful circle bokeh…mmmm. It produces my images evenly lit & I use it for EVERYTHING! It adds such a dramatic depth of field, which is clearly what I like 🙂 I tested this lens out in the camera store while I was purchasing my Nikon D810 & I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I went back a couple days later & picked her up. & She’s been my go-to ever since.
NIKKOR 85mm 1.4
My newest baby to the CBP family & she is a beauty! They say it’s the best lens yet to come from Nikon, & I couldn’t agree more. I worked hard & saved all my pennies for this one & she was sooooo worth it. Again, I love the wide aperture but these images are SHARP! & I mean sharp! With a silky smooth background. Swoon! This lens is on my camera the other 25% of the time. When you’re capturing those close moments between a couple, details, & single portraits – this is the lens!
NIKKOR MACRO 105mm 2.8
This lens dominates the macro photography with it’s vibration reduction. I use this lens for, of course, all my ring shots & details. I wouldn’t shoot with ANYTHING else! I prefer to manual focus because the autofocus sometimes overrides & can’t fully focus on the subject. It works too hard! Ha! I read in a review that this lens has Nano Crystal coatings which reduce ghosting & flare…. & it shows! This lens has yet to do me wrong. I love it!
The Nikon D810
My baby….  Ahh<3 With the 36.3 megapixal, 51-point focusing system & 5 frames per second shooting… this is the best DSLR camera I own & will ever want to own. I will never upgrade again because theres no need too? It’s lighter than my D700 & it’s a lot more comfortable to hold. In a review, it says the D810 is one of the few DSLRs to come without an OLPF. It’s meant to remove moiré (a pattern of wavy lines that appears in photos of fine lines or shapes that are too high) detail for the sensor. It eliminates this pattern without requiring the filter, thus resulting in sharper images – YES! Another great feature with my Nikon D810, it has two memory card slots for both CF & SD cards, so I can backup my images as soon as my shutter releases. The colour comparison is incredible & I’ve been so, so happy with my upgrade to the D810.
 The Ciesta Strap
I was introduced to the Ciesta Strap by Kaihla Tonai & I LOVE it. IÂ had major neck pains/aches with wearing a full neck strap & I found this strap more comfortable for me. It was super stiff the first time I put it on but it’s completely moulded to my hand & I doubt I’ll ever turn to a neck strap again. Not to mention, I think it looks cute!
There you have it! My gear! As always, if you have any questions, leave a comment below or send me a message! I’ll do my best to answer them 🙂
