Diana F+ first appeared in the 1960s. It’s a plastic box film camera used to take soft focus & impressionistic photographs. The photo’s taken are described as “dreamlike” & the low quality is celebrated for it’s artistic effects. Some may find these cameras undesirable, but I find them AWESOME! I got my Diana F+ Mini LEOPARD Limited Edition at one of my favourite stores online: www.urbanoutfitters.com almost 2 years ago. What attracted me into getting this type of camera was the fact that yes, it was leopard print! But the simple art of it all.
“What is Lomography? Lomography is a community of photographers who advocate creative & experimental photography. Lomography has produced & marketed an entire line of their own analogue cameras. They showcase many high-contrasted photographs – with unusual saturation & colour – that are created using the technique called cross-processing. Their motto “Don’t think, just shoot” which encourages spontaneity & to just take photo’s anywhere while minimizing consideration & formal technique.”
In my purchase of the Diana F+ Mini, came these little coloured filters. I had NO idea what the use of these things were or that they even existed until just recently. They filter the FLASH, not the actual camera itself. Am I the only one that found this incredibly cool? It gave meaning to the sentence described above “unusual saturation & colour”. IT’S LIKE IT’S OWN PHOTOSHOP? What! A “Rainbow” coloured flash I found so profound in todays world (ie. Instagram) that I struggle to put this camera down.
The box also included this cute little booklet explaining what this world of Lomography is & a bunch of inspiring photographs. Some of which I have been trying to re-create of my own! A lot of the double exposures are AMAZING! I’ve been shooting with my Mini using 35mm film & I cannot wait to develop the roll! Don’t fret, I’ll show what I managed to capture in a later blog entry
Until then, be inspired.
